Lore

Background

Gentile was born on Solace. At some point in his teenage years, he got a job at the Thunderdome, where he met Makoa Gibraltar. The two quickly bonded, and soon entered into a relationship, sharing their first kiss at the Thunderdome.

One night, the pair began talking about the war, and Gibraltar declared his intent to join the fighting. He convinced Gentile to join him on this endeavor. Gibraltar snuck into his parents’ house to pack supplies. He also stole his father’s motorcycle, and he and Gentile drove off to join the war. Gibraltar decided to take a shortcut through the Cascade Mountains, but heavy mud and reduced visibility from a storm resulted in him losing control and driving off of a cliff. Gibraltar was mostly unscathed, but Gentile was unconscious with a broken leg. S.A.R.A.S. quickly arrived at the scene and was able to rescue the pair.

While Gibraltar wished to tell the truth about the incident, Gentile took the blame, believing that Gibraltar is “the guy who’s gonna save the world one day.” He was sent to juvenile detention for his role in the incident.[1][2]

After his release from prison, Gentile kept in contact with Gibraltar. Eventually, Gentile entered into a relationship with a woman named Vanessa. The two soon had a son, Michael, who idolized Gibraltar. Gentile and Vanessa had separated by 2727.[2]

At some point, Gentile had a custom patu constructed as a gift to Gibraltar.[3]

In 2728, Gentile decided to sue for sole custody of Michael. In retaliation, Vanessa told their son about his father's past and his history with Gibraltar, completely soiling the boy's opinion of his former idol. Gentile later told Gibraltar about this at a clandestine meeting in a park, but Michael soon discovered his presence.[2]

Family Portrait

In 2733, Gentile attended a Chevrex benefit dinner at a museum in Malta, Psamathe. By chance, he encountered Gibraltar, who had accompanied some other Legends to try to obtain an antique MRVN battery.[4] The two had a tense reunion, where Gibraltar attempted to apologize for their past. Gentile stopped this, stating that he needs to "live in 'what-is'" instead of "playing 'what-if.'" Their conversation was interrupted by an explosion triggered by a terrorist attack.[3]

After Gibraltar assisted in thwarting the attack, he and Gentile agreed to reconnect over coffee.[5]

The Legacy Antigen

Before a celebration of Pathfinder on Olympus, various houses on the arena became rentable between Apex Games matches. Gibraltar rented one of these houses with his family and invited Nik and Michael for dinner. When the door knocked, he was instead met by Lifeline, who summoned him for a search and rescue emergency. He found Nik as he left and told him he wouldn’t be long, unaware of the true circumstances of the event.

The Medusa outbreak quickly spread, leaving Michael sick. Gibraltar piloted a S.A.R.A.S. vessel to bring him to a hospital, but their landing area was overrun by Medusa vines. He jumped down to clear the area, breaking his leg in the process. In the hospital, Gibraltar consoleed Gentile, assuring him that a cure will be found and Michael will live.

After the cure was developed, Gentile thanked Gibraltar for keeping him sane, though remarked that Michael might never come around to realize the latter’s role in saving him.[2]
