Salvo is a planet in the Outlands. It is the the home planet of Fuse and Mad Maggie.
Description
Salvo is the third planet from the sun in the Nerio System, placing it in the same system as Págos and Strela.[2] A desert planet[3], Salvo's culture traditionally revolves around violence, freedom, and resistance. One key example of this lies in the Bonecage, a brutal free-for-all brawling competition that acts as the planet's most popular bloodsport.[4] Salvonian culture additionally holds a rite of passage known as the Warrior Rites, where children become fully initiated as Salvonian fighters. It culminates in the Warrior's Feast, consisting of leviathan steak and couscous cakes.[5] Following the pacification of Salvo at the hands of the Mercenary Syndicate, it is unknown if this culture has been quelled.
History
Prior to falling under Syndicate rule, Salvo was a constant warzone with warlords assuming control of the planet. One warlord would conquer the world, only to be overthrown by another warlord, and so on. Leadership often shifted between various warbands and warlords. The two most prominent are the Black Rattler, led by Sandringham Kelly, and the Cracked Talon, led by Mad Maggie. The planet seemed to be in a perpetual state of war for at least fifty years.
At some point, Salvo was invaded by the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation, which left behind several arms bunkers which continue to be raided by the warbands of Salvo.[6]
In 2734, Kelly and the Black Rattler, with the help of Cherisse Che, took control of Salvo and arranged for the planet to become the seventh world in Syndicate Space.[7] As a result, Salvo's citizens became eligible for participation in the Apex Games, with Fuse becoming the world's first competitor.[8] The matter of Salvo joining with the Mercenary Syndicate has been highly contentious among the populace, with a vast number of Salvonians initially violently resisting Kelly's rule and partnership.[4]
By 2735, Salvo was fully pacified and gentrified, and most laid down their arms as a result of the benefits that came from the Mercenary Syndicate's occupation. Additionally, past Salvonian heroes were now looked upon with scorn, with many graves and monuments desecrated. Fuse's image was a key tool of Syndicate propaganda to achieve this.[9]
