Heirloom

Heirlooms are Mythic-tier cosmetic items that change the skin of your melee weapon in Apex Legends. They typically come in sets that include a banner pose, an Intro Quip.svg Intro Quip, and a melee weapon skin, though some feature a Kill Quip.svg Kill Quip, Banner Frame or Emote.

Typically, one new Heirloom Set is released per Season in a Collection Event, though there are exceptions. During the Collection Event, the Heirloom Set can be obtained by collecting all 24 items of the event's collection set. Once the Collection Event is over, the Heirloom Set is moved into the Mythic Store where it can be purchased using 150 Heirloom Shards Heirloom Shards.

Information

Each Apex Pack.svg Apex Pack has a less than 1%[1] chance of dropping 150 Heirloom Shards.svg Heirloom Shards, which can then be used in the Mythic Store to buy an Heirloom Set of choice. A pack that contains Heirloom Shards is not consumed after being opened.

If a player opens 499 packs without getting any shards, Heirloom Shards 150 is guaranteed on the 500th pack. However, more shards cannot be acquired if all Heirloom Sets are already owned.

When a player knocks someone or gets a kill with an heirloom, the usual "[Melee]" in the kill feed is replaced with "[<Heirloom name> Melee]."

Origins

  • Wraith's Hope's Dusk was given to her by the Voidwalker to assist in her escape of the ARES Division facility she was kept in.[3]
  • The Raven's Bite was previously owned by Artur, Bloodhound's uncle. He gave it to them to complete a rite of initiation in his tribe, and they retained ownership of the axe after his death.[4]
  • Gibraltar's War Club is a Māori weapon known as a patu. It was created or commissioned by his ex-boyfriend, Nik, as a gift.[5]
  • Cold Steel is a data knife previously owned by IMC Lieutenant Scryer. After Scryer's death during an attack on a settlement on the island of Storm Point, it was taken by Bangalore as a trophy.[6]
  • The Garra de Alanza is based on a fan previously owned by Alanza Andrade. The fan was reclaimed from an auction house on Psamathe by Loba and Jaime in 2726. Loba later created the Garra de Alanza as a weaponized replica.
  • The Strongest Link was originally owned by Newton Somers, who was inspired by Ashleigh Reid's training with them. He begged his godmother, Lillian Peck, to buy them for him, but gave up on his training after hitting himself in the face twice. Before joining the research team for Project Iris, he gave them to Reid.[7]
  • The Razor's Edge was rebuilt from Fuse's broken guitar, as an anniversary gift from Bloodhound.
  • The origins of Lifeline's Shock Sticks are unknown. They are likely based on her time spent as a drummer in the punk band The Flyer Liars.
  • The origins of Pathfinder's Boxing Gloves are unknown. They are likely based on his encounter with former police lieutenant and boxer Victor Maldera.[8]
  • The origins of Octane's Butterfly Knife are unknown. He was seen playing with, and injuring himself with, the knife during the events of Family Portrait.[9]
    • The origins of Octane's Prototype are unknown. From the Transition.svg Inheritence transition, it can be assumed that it is a prototype of Octane's original Butterfly Knife with an experimental variant of Stim inside
  • The origins of Caustic's Death Hammer and Revenant's Dead Man's Curve are unknown. Both were seen wielding their respective weapons during the events of The Legacy Antigen.[10][11]
  • The origins of Wattson's Energy Reader is unknown. She was seen using the device during the events of Trouble in Paradise.[12]
  • The origins of Seer's Showstoppers are unknown. He was seen using them in an Arenas match in the Reflections of the Moon quest in Season 15.svg Season 15.
  • The origins of Mirage's Too Much Witt, Rampart's Problem Solver, Crypto's Biwon Blade, Valkyrie's Suzaku and Horizon's Gravity Maw are unknown.
  • The origin's of Revenant's Death Grip, Wraith's Hope's Dawn, and Crypto's Durumi Blade are unknown.
  • Pathfinder's Boxing Gloves heirloom set is the only heirloom set to instead include a Kill Quip rather than an Intro Quip.

History

Trivia

  • Hope's Dusk has "QUIETO" written on it. The meaning is an Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish word that means "still" or "Quiet".
  • Mirage wears his goggles if he equips Too Much Witt.
    • He also occasionally hits his opponents with a pork chop or does an eye poke while attacking.
    • The trophy's description is a reference to the live-action performance that happened during The Game Awards of 2019.[13]
    • In his You Really Love Me Banner Pose, he will smile while posing with the trophy with certain skins.
  • In one of Death Hammer's weapon inspections, a spider, Scarabaeidae Arachnia, appears. The toxic substance used in Caustic's Nox Gas Trap.svg Nox Gas Trap and Nox Gas Grenade.svg Nox Gas Grenade is harvested from this spider.[14] The spider also appears during the Fight or Fright Icon.svg Fight or Fright events.
  • Initially, "Heirloom" was also the name of the red item rarity, the highest one in the game. Even non-Heirloom red items, such as Supply Drop Weapons, were described as "Heirloom Tier."[15] The rarity was renamed to "Mythic" following the addition of Prestige Skins.
  • The War Club inspect animations include an inspection where Gibraltar inspects at his gun shield, which is the first time a Legend has inspected an item other than their Heirloom when having the Heirloom equipped.
  • Pathfinder's Heirloom set is the only one that contains a Kill Quip instead of an Intro Quip.
  • The Problem Solver has an attack animation that lets Rampart hit enemies with Octane's prosthetic leg.
  • Wattson will smile if she equips the Energy Reader.
  • When the Suzaku is equipped, Valkyrie will rarely melee attack with the helmet of her father, Viper. We hope his head was removed beforehand.
    • The helmet will also appear in one of the inspect animations, where, referring to the inanimate object as "dad," Valkyrie apologizes that she is out to make her own legacy. She also opens the helmet in this animation, fortunately debunking the worries above.
  • Rarely, Loba will strike with a Revenant head while using the Garra de Alanza. This, along with Rampart rarely striking the target with Octane's leg, are the only animations that borrow a part of another Legend.
  • Wraith's first Heirloom was known as the Kunai until Season 16.svg Season 16.
  • Wraith and Revenant are the only Legends to have multiple Heirloom Sets.
  • Inspecting Ash's Strongest Link will sometimes cause her to hold her rat and feed it a piece of cheese.
    • An additional animation has her receive a voicemail from Pathfinder, but cut it off mid-way out of annoyance.
  • Inspecting Seer's Showstoppers will sometimes cause him to pull out a tablet and draw various logo styles of his name. The name "Pariah" is scribbled out, referencing Seer's development name.
    • The animation has a rare chance of drawing Loba with her Garra de Alanza lying next to her.
  • Revenant is the only Legend to have received more than one Heirloom Set in a single Season, the Death Grip heirloom and Apex Nightmare Prestige Skin.
  • Crypto's Durumi Blade set is the first Heirloom set since Wraith's Hope's Dusk to be sold outside of an event.
    • It is also the first Heirloom set to include a finisher.
