First introduced Feb 08, 2022

Control is a Mixtape game mode in which two teams of nine compete for ownership of three different Control Zones. It was originally introduced as a Limited Time Mode in Season 12.svg Season 12's Anniversary Icon.svg 3rd Anniversary Collection Event, returned on several occasions, then was added permanently to the game on March 7, 2023 through the Mixtape playlist.

Details

Players

  • Two teams of nine Legends compete against each other.
  • A team is made out of three different trio squads, so multiple instances of the same Legend may appear. The same Legend cannot appear more than once in the same trio however, which means there can be up to three of the same Legend.
  • A Legend's Health automatically starts regenerating after not taking damage for 4 seconds.
  • All Legends are pre-equipped with a Body Shield.svg Body Shield, a Helmet.svg Helmet, infinite ammo, infinite Shield Cell.svg Shield Cells, and infinite Shield Battery.svg Shield Batteries. They can also respawn indefinitely.
  • Legends cannot get knocked down and enter the Bleeding Out state, dying instead as soon as their health is depleted. When a Legend dies, they drop any weapons, ordnance, and Helmet.svg Helmets and Body Shield.svg Body Shields that are not the default Level 2 ones.
  • Ash's Marked for Death.svg Marked for Death will automatically ping a squad member's killer upon their death, due to the lack of Death Boxes.
  • Lifeline's Care Package.svg Care Package always contains three Body Shield.svg Body Shields.

Gameplay

The goal of Control is to score points by capturing and holding Control Zones.

  • There are three Control Zones on each map. There are also two Home Bases, one for each team, which cannot be captured.
    • Captured Zones will yield 1 point each every second to the team that controls them.
  • Players can choose between five different weapon Loadouts, which vary according to the Loadout's name. All Loadouts will also have one type of ordnance.
    • The optic for the weapon can be chosen freely.
    • Loadouts can be changed at any point during the match, but only while the player is awaiting respawn.
    • The available Loadouts cycle every 15 minutes, but only after a new match is started.
  • A Rating system which improves the quality of the currently held weapons the more contributions the player makes. Ratings are separated into three Tiers: Ratings Tier 2, Ratings Tier 3, and Ratings Tier 4.
    • Reaching a new Ratings Tier is the only way to charge a Legend's Ultimate, which will be fully charged upon reaching it.
    • All the weapons start as Rare Fully Kitted Weapons and get upgraded to Epic and then to Legendary each time a new Ratings Tier is reached, however weapons cannot go from Rare to Legendary, they must be upgraded to Epic first.
    • Instead of a Kill Leader, the player with the highest Ratings is appointed as Ratings Leader. The minimum requirement is 500 Ratings.
    • Ratings can be earned by killing/assisting in killing enemies, capturing/defending points, contesting points, and a bonus for killing the Ratings Leader.
  • Upon death, a Legend must pick a Zone to respawn into, as respawns aren't automatic.
    • Respawns are split into Respawn Waves, which will mass respawn any dead Legend that has picked their desired Zone to spawn into, otherwise they won't be respawned.
    • To spawn in a Zone that isn't the Home Base, that Zone must be captured and directly connected to the Home Base, without enemy-controlled Zones inbetween. It also needs to be at least one Zone away from the enemy's Home Base.
  • During a match, Timed Events may happen.
    • Bonus Capture: one of the three Control Zones gets marked. Once the Event ends, whichever team is currently holding that Zone will earn bonus points.
    • Care Package: multiple Care Packages land into the arenas, marked by red and yellow beams, which also help distinguishing which kind of loot is to be expected in them.
    • Mobile Respawn Beacon: a Care Package containing a Mobile Respawn Beacon.svg Mobile Respawn Beacon will land in the arena, and whoever grabs the Beacon is marked in real-time on the map. It can be placed at any point during the match around a Control Zone and, once it lands, it functions as a valid respawn point for 3 minutes for the team whose member placed it. Although this Event stays active as long as the Beacon has not been used or there's still time left for respawns, a Bonus Capture Event or Care Package Event may still happen along with it.
  • The only lootable items are those found in Care Packages.
  • Abandon Penalty is active, which prevents players from queuing for every game mode if a match is quit prematurely. Penalty starts at 2 minutes.

Winning

There are three ways to win in Control.

  • The first team to reach 1000 points wins.
  • If a team captures all available Zones, a Lockout starts. If the other team doesn't manage to capture at least one Zone before Lockout ends, the team with all the Zones wins.
    • A Lockout may happen only early or midway through a match. If either team is close to getting 1000 points and a team manages to secure all Zones, a Lockout won't happen and the match proceeds normally.
  • Control matches aren't endless. If neither team has reached 1000 points when the time expires, the team with the most points wins.
