The Mozambique Shotgun, or Mozambique, is a fully-automatic triple-barreled shotgun pistol that utilizes Shotgun Shells.svg Shotgun Shells. It fires three pellets in the shape of a triangle. A second Mozambique may be equipped in the same weapon slot, enabling the Akimbo state.

Being a shotgun, the Mozambique affects Mad Maggie's movement speed because of her Warlord's Ire.svg Warlord's Ire Passive ability.

Six April Fools' variants exist for the Mozambique: an enhanced version, Ol' Nessie, Mozambrrr, Mozamburst, Mozambeam, and Mozamblam.

Akimbo

The Mozambique can become Akimbo by equipping two Mozambiques in the same weapon slot. While Akimbo, the two Mozambiques:

  • have their fire rate increased from 160 / 176 / 184 / 192 to 175 / 193 / 201 / 210 RPM;
  • have their total magazine size doubled from 5 to 10;
  • have their tactical reload speed increased from 2.1 to 2.5 seconds;
  • have their full reload speed increased from 2.6 to 3 seconds;
  • share any attachment they have equipped without the need to search for another;
  • cannot be aimed down sights with as attempting to do so will instead tighten their hipfire spread, and their Optics are disabled;
  • share any skin currently equipped on the base Mozambique.

The Akimbo state can be toggled on/off by pressing B/Left/Left/Left, without the need to drop the second Mozambique. Toggling Akimbo off will return the Mozambique to its original single-weapon state.

Note: Fortified.svg Fortified headshot damage may vary ±3. This is due to uncertainty over whether Fortified reduces non rounded or rounded damage numbers. This difference is negligible on non pellet based weapons.

  1. Shotgun damage is calculated per pellet.
    Correct: 15dmg/pellet x 1.25 = 18.75dmg/pellet ≈ 19dmg/pellet, resulting in 57 damage total.
    Incorrect: 45dmg x 1.25 = 56.25 ≈ 56 damage total.

Lore

In the wake of the mass Frontier migration into the Outlands, regional conflicts and land-grabs created a demand for inexpensive firearms. The Mozambique Shotgun (named for an execution technique with a similar, triangular spread) served that function for Pilots in the Frontier War and a new model was soon being mass-produced for civilian use. The result is a firearm with a small magazine and minimal stopping power - while useful for self-defense, a standard Mozambique will require modifications (or a lot of luck) to be useful in a real fight.

Skins

There are a total of 73 skins for the Mozambique Shotgun: 15 Legendary, 10 Epic, 32 Rare, and 16 Common.

Trivia

  • The name and triangular pellet pattern of the Mozambique Shotgun is a reference to the Mozambique Drill technique of shooting someone twice in the chest and once in the head.
    • Bangalore may reference this when pinging a Mozambique.
    • The Mozambique Drill is also referenced with an Anniversary Icon.svg Anniversary event challenge of the same name.
  • Requesting optics for the Mozambique will result in the Legend asking for pistol optics, instead of shotgun ones, despite the weapon being classified as a shotgun.
    • The Mozambique being a pistol was also further supported by Hammerpoint Rounds.svg Hammerpoint Rounds, which are shown to be compatible with "pistols, except the Wingman".
  • Since the game has been released, the Mozambique has become a popular meme among players due to it being hardly ever useful in fights because of the low damage output and the very slow time to kill; the weapon is also memed for the line Mozambique here!, said by all Legends when pinging one, with players especially mimicking Lifeline because of her unique accent. Even after the various buffs the Mozambique received through the Seasons to the point of becoming a far more viable weapon than it was originally, the meme is still popular to this day.
    • Respawn Entertainment themselves officially acknowledged the existence of this meme during the second Anniversary Icon.svg Anniversary of the game, by adding a Charms Icon.svg Weapon Charm as well as a Badges Icon.svg Badge.
    • During April Fools' 2023, pinging any weapon (except the Mozambique) would transorm it into a random April Fools' variant of the Mozambique based on its original ammo type, essentially rendering impossible to ping other weapons than the Mozambique. During the same say, most Map Features such as Doors and Ziplines also served the same fate, replacing themselves with Mozambiques once pinged.
    • When Lifeline's special inspect animation with akimbo Mozambiques is triggered, she references the meme.
  • During the Apex Legends.svg Preseason and Season 1.svg Season 1, the Mozambique had a unique drop animation where the Legends would forcefully throw it on the ground instead of simply letting the weapon fall. It has been removed in Season 2.svg Season 2.
  • Lifeline, Mad Maggie, and Alter have some unique animations for the Mozambique as following:
    • Maggie has Mozambique akimbo tactical reload and full reload animations.
    • Lifeline has a unique inspect animation for akimbo Mozambiques, referencing the popular meme involving her and the gun.
    • Alter has her own second Mozambique pickup or Mozambique Akimbo animation, using her cybernetic tail to pick up the second gun, as well as an occasional voiceline.
